The closing date for nominations has now passed and we are pleased to say that we have had a good level of entry in all categories. Sarah Howard, Secretary of the Haverhill Chamber of Commerce said “Haverhill is a town with great business strengths and a bright future. The energy, buoyancy and optimism in the business community is reflected in the quality of the entries we have received for the CB9 Business Awards.”

Paul Donno, Chairman of the Haverhill Chamber of Commerce added “We would like to thank all the companies that have entered and hope that they will come along to enjoy the evening.”

This year’s black-tie event at Chilford Hall on 17th May 2007 promises to be a spectacular evening and will be the business social event of the year.

The evening will commence with a welcome reception kindly sponsored by Barclays Commercial Bank, followed by a 3-course dinner with 1⁄2 bottle of wine per person and coffee. Following the awards presentation, Jacen and the Rockanauts will keep us dancing into the early hours. Tickets cost £75 per person.

Fundraising on the evening will support the St Nicholas Hospice. Speaking about the awards, St Nicholas Hospice Corporate Fundraiser Clive Gillam says: “St Nicholas Hospice are extremely grateful to Haverhill Chamber of Commerce to be chosen once again as the charity partner to benefit from the 2008 Business Awards. The Hospice are always delighted to enter into mutually beneficial partnerships with the local business community, and we especially look forward to the awards evening on 17th May - we are sure it will be a glittering occasion, and an opportunity to shine the spotlight on the vibrant local business network. We wish the organizers and all those involved in the event a wonderful time, and are very glad to be part of it”.

The Haverhill Chamber’s first event of 2008, Fighting Business Crime in Haverhill, took place at the Haverhill Golf Club last week. Before PC Sonia Plume and her colleagues from the Safer Neighbourhoods team took the floor to talk about how the business community can work together with the police to combat crime in the town, a presentation was made to St Nicholas Hospice.

A cheque for £1707.36 was presented to St Nicholas Hospice. This was the surplus from the 2005 Haverhill Business Awards and was handed over by Paul Donno, Chairman of Haverhill Chamber to representatives of St Nicholas Hospice - Clive Gillam, outgoing Corporate & Lottery Development Officer and Joel Foyster, who will be taking over Clive’s role. The Haverhill Chamber had committed to making the donation before the CB9 Business Awards 2008 and felt the first event of the New Year was an appropriate time to do this.

St Nicholas Hospice has been nominated as the chosen charity for the CB9 Business Awards 2008 and fundraising on the evening of the Gala Dinner will support this local charity.

Paul Donno commented, “It is an honour for me to present this cheque to St Nicholas Hospice on behalf of the Haverhill Chamber. I would like to thank all those businesses that were involved in the 2005 Business Awards for the contribution they made to the success of the event and to the money that they raised for St Nicholas Hospice.

We have enjoyed working with Clive Gillam, he has become a familiar face at our events and we are sad to see him go but wish him well for the future. We welcome Joel Foyster who is taking over from Clive and look forward to developing our relationship with him.

Plans for the CB9 Business Awards 2008 are well under way now with nomination forms and ticket booking forms available to download from the business awards website, www.cb9businessawards.co.uk. Our thanks go to local brand development and marketing communications agency The Design Office for designing and creating the website.

We hope that Haverhill companies will again rise to the challenge and be eager to enter the awards, the deadline for entries is 31st March 2008, and to come along and enjoy what will be a great night out.”
